Grown mostly in our garden for its companion planting benefits, the chamomile plant has an especially fragrant flower that attracts many of our garden friends such as bees, ladybugs and butterflies. The plant is known to have anti-fungal properties as well as being a mosquito deterrent.
One great thing about growing your own chamomile and other herbs like it, is we get to harvest the flowers and/or leaves of these plants, dehydrate them and turn them into flavorful teas. You can also combine them with other home-grown herbs to make cold teas for these hot summer days, and hot tea for the cooler fall nights.
Here we combined the chamomile herb along with some chocolate mint we have growing inside a bourbon barrel planter:
