Today we turn our attention to the darling of the garden, the Coneflower also known as " Echinacea ". Named for its conically shaped center, some species of echinacea are known to be used for their medicinal benefits. ( Disclaimer: Yanni & Yacky's Stuff LLC does not prescribe any herbal remedies for healing as we are not professional herbalist or doctors.) We have over the years used our dehydrated echinacea for teas combines with herbs such as elderberry and calendula. Coneflowers with their long stems, curvy petals and bright, colorful flowers, are also known for being an attractive draw to your garden for many pollinators, especially bees.

The echinacea pictured here wad planted by Yanni, some 3+ years ago in the spring and initially did not germinate that season. After wintering over however the seed were ready to burst out and grow into the beautiful flowers we see today.

Each year we allow the seeds and parts of the flower we don't harvest to fall to the ground and plant new coneflowers for the next growing season. So for your next planting venture, and to add more color and variety to your garden, pick up some echinacea seeds and even a plant or two from your local garden center. ( Our seeds were purchased at Primex Garden Center in Glenside, PA)
